The Ask

The client needed a prestigious, structured competition format that could:

  • Spotlight African culinary talent with career opportunities.

  • Engage food enthusiasts across digital and live platforms.

  • Provide attractive sponsorship assets to global and local brands.

  • Position African cuisine on a global stage.

Our Solution

The solution was the creation of EKO FLAVOURS, a flagship culinary competition developed under the Culinara Group to celebrate African cuisine and spotlight emerging talent. Tantacom brought this vision to life by designing a multi-stage contest that combined digital participation with live experiential events.

1) Platform Strategy & Positioning

  • Property Definition: A premium, talent-first competition showcasing African gastronomy with credible judging and transparent rules.

  • Identity & Narrative: “Celebrate, compete, elevate”  designed as a talent pipeline, not just a show.

  • Scalability: Built with a modular format and brand system to allow for city/regional editions and franchising.

2) Competition Architecture (from brief to stage design)

  • Preliminaries: Open-access 1-minute video entries; Top 50 selected via digital shortlisting and public voting.

  • Quarterfinals: 20 contestants compete in themed cooking tasks tied to African ingredients and techniques.

  • Semi-Finals: Top 10 execute complex dishes (technique, timing, and plating tested).

  • Grand Finale: Top 5 deliver a complete 3-course menu (starter, main, dessert) under time pressure before judges and audience.

3) Brand System & Creative Direction

      • Design System: Logo, colorways, typography, stage look, prop styling, and broadcast graphics.

      • Stage & Visual Identity: Integrated African cultural cues with modern design for premium positioning.

      • Consistency: Ensured visual and experiential cohesion across digital platforms, live stages, and branded content.
